Getting your toddler involved in household tasks
Keeping a house tidy with a toddler can be a challenge. But it doesn't have to be. You can engage your little ones in daily chores, making cleaning not just a habit but a fun activity. It might get messier and take longer in the beginning but setting the foundation is the hardest part. Here are 10 ideas for how your toddler can get started with responsibilities around the house.
Putting Toys Away: Encourage toddlers to put their toys back in designated bins or shelves. This helps with categorization skills and understanding of spatial relations.
Feeding Pets: They can help by pouring pet food into bowls under supervision. This activity develops their fine motor skills and sense of responsibility towards other living beings.
Watering Plants: With a small watering can, toddlers can help water houseplants. This introduces them to the concept of caring for the environment and living things.
Helping with Laundry: Toddlers can assist by putting dirty clothes into the laundry basket, handing clothes to an adult to hang up, or matching socks after they have been washed. These tasks enhance their matching and sorting skills.
Setting the Table: While it might be a bit much to expect toddlers to set the whole table, they can help by placing napkins or utensils. Take an old placemat and label where items go so they have a template!
Wiping Spills: Giving toddlers a cloth to help wipe up spills teaches them about cleaning up after themselves and contributes to their hand-eye coordination.
Helping with Cooking: Toddlers can participate in safe kitchen activities like washing fruits and vegetables, stirring ingredients in a bowl, or using cookie cutters to cut dough. These tasks improve their sensory experiences and fine motor skills.
Dusting: With a small, lightweight duster or a rag, toddlers can help dust lower furniture surfaces. This is an easy way for them to feel involved in household cleaning.
Collecting Mail: Accompanied by an adult, toddlers can help collect mail from a mailbox. This simple activity makes them feel like they are contributing to daily family routines.
Gardening: Simple gardening tasks like digging small holes, planting seeds, or covering seeds with soil can be fascinating for toddlers. This offers them tactile stimulation and teaches them about growth and care.

Article Suggestions for Mom:
What to Read:
If you like fantasy… The Name of The Wind. It's kind of like Game of Thrones meets Harry Potter. I just finished reading it for the second time, and it hits even better the second time.
If you like 🌶️🌶️ fantasy… Zodiac Academy series. The 9th book comes out on April 23, so now is the perfect time to start the series!
If you like historical fiction … Good Night, Irene. What I’m currently reading, and it’s a bit of a different take on a classic WW2 historical fiction. I’m really liking it so far!
If you like a little spice and Harry Potter… if you haven’t read Manacled yet, you need to. I never thought I’d read a fan fiction novel, but here I am, still thinking about it months later. *note: please read the trigger warnings before starting.
What to Watch:
One Day on Netflix. I haven’t started it yet, but it is happening this week! I loved the original movie and could use a good love story this week.
You're all set to embrace the new week. May it bring you sparks of happiness in the everyday moments and abundant laughter from your little ones.
